About The Nassau Sunshine Fund

The Nassau Sunshine Fund is an all-volunteer organization and each board member serves on a committee or as an officer.

The Disbursement Committee handles all loan requests. Loans are made at zero interest with a maximum limit of $500 per loan applicant. The applicant sets the terms of repayment. Nassau Sunshine Fund pays vendors directly for supplies and services. For example, if a loan is made for a car repair, then the fund directly pays the garage for the repair. The identity of applicants is kept confidential.

The Fundraising Committee helps raise awareness and donations for the fund by participating in community events.

In addition, contributions are received via our website and through the mail. All contributions are tax-deductible at the fullest extent permitted by law. Ninety five percent of all money received from repayments, donations and fundraisers is used for loans. The Fund appreciates the generous support it has received from many individuals as well as from these organizations: the Stewart’s Foundation, Oliver B. Merlyn Foundation, Camp Schodack, and others. Local religious organizations have made donations and conducted collections specifically for the Nassau Sunshine Fund; these include St. Mary’s Church, Grace United Methodist Church, Qadiri Rifai Tariqa, St. Henry’s Church, Nassau Reform Church and the Circles of Mercy.
